Our plans for 2026

Welcome to 2026. We had our first meeting on January 2nd with the theme of ‘new beginnings’. Some shared original pieces of work whilst others talked about their writing hopes for the new year. Many of us have half-finished projects on the go and would welcome the support of other writers to encourage us to complete our goals.

Our next meeting is on Friday January 16th, back at our new home of Art at the Alex in James Street, Rugby. The theme will be ‘how to write a cliff-hanger’. We will be talking about the skill of how to carry the reader into the next chapter. How do we engage the reader and make them continuing reading our books? The writing challenge is to produce a mini-chapter of a book (about 350 words) which ends with a cliff-hanger.

Meetings will continue every fortnight on a Friday throughout 2026 (we don’t take holidays). We have been fortunate to welcome plenty of new members recently and we ask only that you have a sincere commitment to supporting other writers and to sharing your own skills.

We have a spin-off group which meets monthly to critique new work. There is a waiting list to join this group as it has a maximum of eight members. If you are interested in submitting a chapter or two of your new work to this group, you must also be ready to read the work of others and to offer your constructive comments. It’s a two-way street. Use the contact form on this website if you would like to find out more.

During 2026, we hope to stage more events. We have an idea for a poetry evening and we also intend to take part in the Rugby Literary Festival in the autumn. We will also be selling our books at local literary events and fairs, but perhaps not ranging quite so widely across the Midlands this time around.

Writers

Welcome to the Rugby Cafe Writers. We are a friendly group of budding and experienced writers who meet in Rugby every fortnight and share our love of books and writing. We also have a spin-off group which gives authors a chance to get feedback on their works-in-progress. We publish our own anthologies and so far have eight books for sale! Please come and join us. Beginners are most welcome.
