Our plans for December

Our Christmas writing competition will be on Friday December 19th. At the December 5th meeting, you will be invited to draw a card on which there will be the name of a Christmas movie. Your challenge will be to write a 250-word story inspired by that title but not mentioning the film. Other members will then have to guess the film. There will be a prize for the most popular story after a secret vote. If you can’t make the meeting, you are still welcome to enter.

On Saturday December 13th, we will have a stall at the Christmas Saturday Songs event at St Andrew’s Church from 10.30am to 11.30am. Several of us will also be reading out festive stories and poems. Please drop by and support the event if you are in town.

Our Friday January 2nd meeting will be at a different venue – St Andrew’s Church. You are invited to discuss your writing plans and hopes for the new year. The writing challenge is for anything with the heading, “New Beginnings”.

Our next anthology is going to be (along the lines of) More Stories for Every Day of Summer, building on our existing set of four books. We decided to reduce the size of the books (to 5×8 inches) to make this series clearly different from the previous one. I will be inviting submissions for this book very soon.

Cafe Writers’ Christmas Tree. Many thanks to Steve, Dot and Jim for ensuring our group will be represented in the Christmas Tree Festival at St Andrew’s Church. The festival opens on Friday November 28th. Please go along and vote for our tree if you wish. Proceeds to Rugby Bareboards Charity.

Next Wednesday November 26th at 6pm, Lindsay from our group is putting on a QandA online about self-publishing and marketing skills. Lindsay is an expert in this field and I have learned a great deal from her. Here is the link to the free event.

Writers

Welcome to the Rugby Cafe Writers. We are a friendly group of budding and experienced writers who meet in Rugby every fortnight and share our love of books and writing. We also have a spin-off group which gives authors a chance to get feedback on their works-in-progress. We publish our own anthologies and so far have eight books for sale! Please come and join us. Beginners are most welcome.
